Nijolė Maskaliūnienė, PhD, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies of Vilnius University, Lithuania. She has over twenty years of experience in translation both as a translator and researcher, having worked in the field since the declaration of independence of Lithuania in 1991. Her research interests are mainly in the fields of lexicography, terminology, semantics and pragmatics, with a special focus on translation and translator training. She is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Vertimo studijos (‘Translation Studies’), the author of a number of publications on lexical converses, antonymous translation and various aspects of Lithuanian terminology.

The professor teaches translation, reads courses in English Lexicology, Lexicography and Terminology, is a partner and coordinator of different projects, the supervisor of master and doctoral dissertations. As the Head of the Department (since 2005), she has been actively involved in the policy making in the field of translation and terminology in Lithuania, is a member of various commissions, the Association of Translation Studies, the Association of Translators of Lithuania and the Association of Applied Linguistics of Lithuania as well as a member of the EMT Board.
