Gabrielė Šalčiūtė-Čivilienė

Gabrielė Šalčiūtė-Čivilienė completed a BA in English Language and Literature at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania, and an MPhil in English at Bergen University, Norway. While working for 9 years as a sales and marketing manager for Pearson Education in the Baltic States, she also worked for Kaunas Technology University and Vilnius University in combination with free-lancing in translation. For three years before moving to UK, she taught courses in literary analysis, translation theory & practice, and corpus linguistics at Vilnius Pedagogical University. Whilst based in UK now, she continues teaching two online translation-focused courses of her design to students at Vilnius Business College.

She is in her fourth year of part-time PhD studies doing a research in corpus-based literary translation studies under the supervision of Willard McCarty in the Department of Digital Humanities, King‘s College London, and Theo Hermans at University College London (UCL), and is consulted on the aspect of the Lithuanian language and literature by Artūras Judžentis in the Lithuanian Department at Vilnius University. In her PhD thesis she uses repetition as a perspective to compare the Lithuanian literary translation with its original text in English.

Her current interests include translation studies, stylistics, psychoanalysis and literature, corpus linguistics, and a post-colonial perspective on Lithuanian culture and literature.
